Internationally renowned Philippine-American painter Pacita Abad (1946-2004) was born in Basco, Batanes, a small island in the northernmost part of the Philippines. Later, as she worked in her studio at home in Washington, DC, she drew inspiration from her childhood in Asia, her commitment to different communities of America, and her travels across six continents. As part of the Art to Art Series executive produced by Asian Women United, art, gender, and cultural politics come to light in the vibrant colors of Pacita’s paintings.
